My notebook is not reading the DVD formate cd's?

Last time after cleaning the lense may be could be one effect. I was trying to play dvd cd on my notebook but the player is not reading em.
But the funny entity is i can play vcd pertty fine

This is possible that, you can read DVD but not compact disc because of the different structures of those ROMs. Try after cleaning again, but use good lense cleaning compact disc and fluids (they are available in the market).
