But READ the reviews of laptops if explicitly what you are buying. Avoid DELL at all costs. Their laptops suck. Go beside Toshiba or HP.
More than Speed, you need RAM. Go next to Windows Vista Home Premium and not the LAME basic text. Then get 2GB of RAM surrounded by your new computer.

Turion and Centrino are regular type single processor chips. The Duo, dual core, core 2 are dual processors sandwich together in a single plug-in section.
Centrino, celeron, pentium are all Intel unit and Turion, A64, Sempron are AMD units.
Which to buy?? Well what do you surface comfortable with? The AMD unit usually run at a slower speed and therefore a bit cooler (heat is a major factor for chip failure) but enjoy very dutiful processing power. Most of my systems are AMD based due to the lower cost and easier cooling.
If nitebearer owns a computer shop, next he should know that the Turion is available as a dual core processor. It is called the Turion X2.

It used to be the case that the AMD processors run cooler. Nowadays, however, the Core 2 Duos rule the roost. They run extremely cool, and hence quietly; especially when compared to the elderly Pentium 4s.
As was said since, Duo simply means that it's a Dual core processor. If you can afford it, my proposal would be to go for a Core 2 Duo base PC.
