Problem beside Laptop...?
Answer:
The easiest point to try is to see if it will boot in secure mode by hitting the F8 key as it's booting to see if it will boot that route. You can also hold down the shift key. If it boots next to no problem in safe and sound mode then you own a problem with a device driver or a system startup service. You can type msconfig at a command prompt and select Diagnostic startup or Selective startup (in XP). If it boots beside these options this might tender you a clue. If the problem just started not long you could try to do a system restore but that won't be the fix if it's a hardware problem.
