What, do you want us to go shopping for you? Why don't you try ebay. I'd be reticent of online places though. Try Best Buy, they have deal alot.
Keep checking out Dell, someone I know bought a decent laptop for lower than 550 shipped. Also sign up for their newsletters..ebay is good too but when it comes to warranty I'd to some extent buy from the manufacturer's. Also I would stick with XP though as Vista is a moment or two unstable atm but still worth a try if your into a different look. :)
All I have to read out is get an HP, they are really fitting computers.
