I'm a Dell fan. If you're going to jump with Vista simply make sure you enjoy 2gb of ram. You'll probably want a 15.4" and possibly an Intel Duo Core. Especially with any extra apps. Then if you're going to do some demo try Sound Forge. I've created a couple albums with that for charity.
