I'm proclivity towards the Inspiron 1501...only because I own the same computer! The AMD Turion processor is rapid. I only wish I waited until presently to buy it since they offer free upgrades on the HD(120GB) mine is 80GB, and 2GB DDR2 knock against...mine only come with 1GB. The tech support is great, and you can opt for the extended warranty...which I strongly recommend.
I hold the Inspiron 1501 and it's brilliant! If they about like peas in a pod price you're getting an extra gigabyte of RAM free which is a big plus and a bargain. Sony other tend to be overpriced.
That's not really a good side by side comparison. As it is, the Inspiron is the clear conqueror b/c of the memory. But:
What's the clock speed for the processor on the VAIO?
What's the graphics card on the Inspiron?
What OS on the VAIO?
Tell us those 3 things, and we will let you know wich one is if truth be told better.
