Im am trying to install a external hdd that plug and play but it wont install on my system. can some one back

i hold a gateway tablet notebook with window xp and service pack 2. the hard drive is a wester digital my book essential 320gb usb external complicated drive. when you plug i in the computer it is suppose to install the driver and software its self but it isn't for me.

trademark sure your usb cables are working, try plugging the hdd to another system to see if it works if it does than the problem is on the gateway. verbs out you usb port. and finally try installing the drivers before you plug the HDD.
mmmm. it should not have need of to install any software at all it would be close to a memory stick so if you plug it in you should afterwards just hold to go to my computer and it would be down under nearby, and then you can dispatch stuff to it and store it on there i doesn't stipulation any software under xp
If the frozen drive came near a disc use the disc to install the drivers if windows installer doesn't automatically detect the device.
