My rugged drive is shot and circuit city said they can't bring back any of my ripened files. Do I own any option?

The laptop lately got bumped around and they told me near could be some physical damage to the rock-hard drive. It would seem to me that there'd be some mode to fix it.

If you're going to try the freezer trick make sure the drive is completely dry back you plug it back it. Any benign of moisture might short it out. If your data be absolutely central you should take it to a facts recovery company. I've have good luck next to CBL. Check them out. http://www.cbltech.com
Yes there is a track ti fix it.

Sledge hammer comes to mind.

Some can thieve the drive out and put it in the freezer and agree to it sit for awhile and then lug it out and hook it back up and afterwards burn the data bad of it that way... BUT !!!

You hold got to own a different computer and set things up BEFORE HAND so that all you enjoy to do is install it in the computer and boot, next start the burning software and start burning...

hope this helps
There are adapters available that plug into the hdd(you hold to take it out of the laptop) and plug the usb appendage into a working PC and you may be able to obtain some data.

I own seen first appendage that putting a bad drive contained by the freezer for awhile then hooking it up to a different laptop works if the drive is not to far gone.
I've heard something like the freezer trick before, but not on a thorny drive that was in recent times simply knocked around. You might try it any, but you'll be lucky to carry 5 min. out of it. It's pretty much a last ditch shot. Remember the value of backup.
