Infrared port?

I hold an old, mature laptop and it has a FIR port. How exactly does it work, and what is it used for? Will it work as a wireless grating adapter for a modern day router?

Answer:
It will not work as a wireless introduce yourself adapter for a modern day router. Its function is singular to transfer files to or from another infrared device, such as an elder cell phone, another computer with an infrared port, or an elder PalmPilot.

If the proper drivers are installed, it will be recognized as a port contained by your control panel.
