Toshiba. Acer used to be a fine choice, but there enjoy been an astonishing number of difficulties near their laptops lately.
The new laptops by Apple are great, but even next to a student discount (assuming you are a student) it is higher than the $1K.
Dell, I enjoy had my Dell since 2001 and it still works resembling new. I also lately bought another one in 2005. Also works superlative.
I agree with guitarplayr82. Check within with Dell's site so that you can personalize your laptop. NAD MAKE SURE YOU GET A XP AND NOT A VISTA. XP, not Vista.,,, Dell is the single company that still sells XPs.. VISTA SUX
I would suggest to you a Dell Laptop, they own great customer service! I suggest you spend as much as you can comfortably afford on it, and it should last you at lowest 5 years, unless you are a huge gamer, and need the most current up to date hardware.
