Laptop confusion!?

I'm looking for a laptop to buy for college and home.. I hear great things give or take a few Macbooks but I'm used to Windows, is it hard to swot? Vista looks cool but I hear theres still many bugs inside the software. I've looked at sony VAIOs, Dell Inspirions, HPs, and Toshiba Satelittes.. What else should I look for? My price range is 800-1200.. I single use my computer for music photos internet school work movies webcam etc.. Intel not AMD.. Oh and another query do those finger print readers certainly work? HELP!!

Answers:
You can buy a mac and as long as its using an Intel chip for a processor you can run an application called Bootcamp where on earth you can use the XP operating system on a mac! COOL STUFF! They are however wickedly expensive so... :-(

Get a PC, but stay away from brands close to Sony or one of the performance brands similar to Alienware since they overcharge for what you get. Dells are ok but their sale on laptops usually have debris for a processor or amount of ram and software included. But check the sale in the weekly ad for electronic stores and also on places such as Newegg.com for the best prices.

Yes those fingerprint readers in actual fact work. I have never have a problem with mine!

What you have need of to do is to find out what componant of a computer is most important to you. If you requirement the storage space then with the sole purpose look at computers with the largest amount of HD space and skulk till one comes on sale. For instance my most crucial feature be the video card so I found several laptops which had a ATI Radeon Express X1600 and when I found the ideal one I bought it. (HP nc8430)

Seeing that you use your computer for photos, movies, and music I would suggest looking for a computer in your price reach that has a larger HD size and a DVD drive. The internet and school work can be done on almost any laptop so that wouldnt dictate a hardware requirement. Since you approaching using a webcam maybe finding one beside a webcam built in is a well-mannered idea, but that doesnt niggardly that you can't buy one without a webcam and using a USB one. I would stay away from Intel Celeron Processors but look at the Core 2 or Duo ones since they effectively double your processor's expertise to "think".

One last piece to look for is size and battery life span since that might be of some importance to you. I would stay away from the 17" laptops since they are too stocky and limit freestyle life. Look for a freestyle with more "cells" contained by it. Generally the more cells the longer the freestyle will last. (9-12 cell = good)

I really cant detail you what computer to buy but using what I have told you here you will most credible make a learned decision.

ENJOY!
macs are terribly user friendly, but if u go next to a laptop other than mac, dance with toshiba, especially near the price your looking for...i haven't tried the fingerprint reader, so i can't answer that part.

if you can find one next to windows xp, it will be better stale.
Macs are really easy to capture used to because they are so user friendly that you cant go wrong. Vista is so devastating that I wouldn't consider getting any other laptop...unless you can find one with XP on it. Also, macs come next to so much cool software and run so much quicker than other laptops! You should try one @ a shop before you buy one to see what I tight. They are brilliant!
You can get the best of both worlds: a lower call a halt Apple MAC that runs Windows as well.
www.apple.com (check that later go to Fry's Electronics or
CompUSA or an online site or try www.neoseeker.com)
Acer (www.acer.com) and Gateway (www.gateway.com)
hold inexpensive laptop computers as well.
If you singular use word processing, web surfing, the things
you own looked at, a processor with a Core solo, Celeron,
Sempron (AMD) or VIA, are processors that you can use.
Some systems also use Transmeta Crusoe processors which are ultralow power chips and own been superceded
by other companies (although they are coming out near newer systems).
