Laptop for uni?

I'm nearly to buy a laptop for uni (in Australia). My budget is no more then $1500. I involve something that is portable, hasty and reliable.
Just wondering if someone could tell me what brand and model they recommend. Or exactly what things i should look for within a laptop

A MacBook would be a good bet later. Quick, easy, reliable and support.
HP DV6500t, Mainline laptop from the top seller within the world would be a good choice. It offer value and option. At that price you should be able to win a top Intel core 2 Duo CPU, 2GBs of RAM, a NV8400GT GC, and a 120GB HD, plus a built in net cam.
My second choice would be the Dell 1520 also well priced but a bit bulkier.
