I would reccomend customizing a 17" toshiba satellite. You can buy the following for in the order of $2100 with the instant rebate they donate.
-Core 2 Duo mobile (santa rosa) 2.4 Ghz 800 mhz FSB
-2 Gb RAM DDR2 667mhz
-Vista Home Premium
-ATI mobility Radeon X2600 (256 mb dedicated plus 255 mb shared and it is a Direct X 10 card)
-2 x 120 Gb Hard disks at 5400 rpm. 240 Gb storage
-I Gb flash drive
-Nylon casing
-1680x1050 res screen.

It also comes next to all the standard software and stuff. This computer is easier said than done to find on the company website (the easy to find one is junk)

It is rather expensive, but it would cost less next to out all the complex disk and stuff.

Don't get a mac for gaming. Also the macbook pro isn't greatly good considering its price stub.

The only comparable XPS is the 17" and next to a big hard disk and adjectives it would cost about $3000+

Circuit City laptops aren't unbelievably good contained by the higher price ranges (over $1500) because they are cheaper PCs.

Other obedient bets are the:
-17"Dell Inspiron (XPS is too expensive)
-Clone computers (cyberpowerpc,xoticpc)
MAC Book Pro.

Circuit City usually has great deal if you want Windows. The link above is a NICE laptop if you're predisposed to spend the $$.
go to the best buy your so dum for not going
This is a "loaded" interview. You can buy a cheap working computer that is hasty as all hell, but the definition of"working" is what is fuzzy. If you focus on speed alone and do away with all peripherals, you will acquire it cheap.
It all depends on the option included. And no matter what you find out, specials from the broker, or even e-bay can get you alike cheaper. Shop around...no one know the correct answer to this "loaded" question.
(a)What currency?
(b)Never! and i emphasise NEVER buy an apple PC/Laptop (including mac's) unless you are doing nought but graphical editing

I bought a cheap Dell XPS for < $1700 (AUD) the other day, next to a Core2duo 1.66ghz cpu, a 256 Nvidia graphics card (i forget which model), 2GB Ram, 120GB HDD, etc

You can pick up cheap deals at other places as it have been said, but i would reccommend dell.

You should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 for $1,125.00. The price may be for a time low, but the quality is insuperable.
