You can buy a small USB flashdrive. The correct thing give or take a few this is that it can fit in your pocket, and you can take it everywhere. For a USB external hard drive, you have need of cables, power adapter, and a flat surface. For this USB flashdrive, you don't necessitate any cables.
An external thorny drive can hold up to 500GB. An external hard drive costs seriously of money. A flashdrive can only store more or less 2 GB. You can buy one for 20 bucks. So, if you have a frozen drive full of mp3s, then you should burn them to DVDs or buy an external strong drive. But if you have a moment ago a few gigabytes of music, you can use a flashdrive. The DVD and the flashdrive are the two cheapest solutions probably.
It has be my experience that transferring files with USB cable is too slow. Plus, you have to install the USB cable driver & software on both computers! So, you call for to make sure that the software is compatible next to both computers. If it's not, then you won't be capable of use the cable. The cable is not worth the investment. That's my opinion.
I have this USB cable, and I was competent to transfer files between two computers which both have Windows 98. But when I wanted to verbs files from a Windows 98 computer to a Windows XP computer, I ran into trouble. The USB cable's software have some compatibility issues and didn't work well next to Windows XP. I had to restart my XP computer over and over again, because the software cause it to crash whenever I tried to transfer massive files. So, if you do buy a file verbs cable, make sure that the software which comes beside it supports both Mac and Windows Vista!
I recommend the flashdrive:

Well you could go out and buy a 100GB external strong drive for less than $50 and dump the mp3s from you mac to your external tricky drive and then upload them from the firm drive to the the notebook. Just a thought
you can get a $20 crossover cable if they both hold network ports, and they probably do.
Using a friends make friends hub(or your own if you have one) you can verbs them easily.
I wouldn't rubbish my money on a external hard drive because Mac cannot read or write to Disks formatted for use on PC, and PC cannot read or write to disks formatted for used on Macs.
using a dvd recorder you can bring 4.7 gb onto each DVD. That's jammy enough, but if your collection is huge later you may have to use greatly of DVDs
