My comp does not hold a fundamentally biddable config and the graphics is with the sole purpose an mx4000 nvidia.my quake4 is slow?

Well, since you're running a MX4000 afterwards you shouldn't expect it to run fast since Quake 4 is a spectator sport that requires higher models that support the pixel-shading and etc. Even though if you adjust the settings or resolution there's simply a slight increase in Frame-rate. And I'm guessing your card is running on a AGP slot coz' most MX4000 cards be made before PCI-e come out, coz' most great cards run on PCI-e now. But I would recommend you getting Geforce 6 cards if you're planning to upgrade only just for the game coz' those cards own AGP counterparts and (for me) Nvidia made better cards with the 6 series AGP counterparts than ATi near their X series AGP counterparts.
