Go to device manager and fashion sure your sound driver is functioning properly.. Make sure nouns is not muted and reinstall the soundcard/integrated sound drivers..

Laptops sometimes own their own seperate "mute" function aside from the one included in window. See if your laptop has one and if its switched on or not.
move about to the control panel ans click on the icon that say sound and audio devices, and after click on update driver, and my may want to select configure devices.
