I enjoy a wireless laptop but it solely works a short distance,?
Answer:
There are different strengths. Both for cards and access points. However, even near the strongest equipment the signal will be cut by 12-15dB by the walls of your house in most houses (that's 1/32-1/64th of the power!). Since you're not varying the laptop obviously, I would (in order):
1. Buy Buffalo's dignified power router (WHR-HP-54G) it's got a bidirectional amp - giving nearly the celebration of a commercial grade AP minus the cost. It's amazing. 128mW output power (21dBm) vs 32-64mW (15-18dBm) on most APs.
2. Buy a high gain antenna if that doesn't work. Higher gain omnis will lose gain vertically for their increased horizontal gain (hurting your operation between floors).
If you still can't cover the area you entail to, email me mark@markuhde.com with the details of your setup and we can bargain about other option that you have if you want even wider coveage. I've done commercial deployments including covering a 100,000 square foot church campus with masses concrete walls and capacity considerations. You own options. They're terrifically specific to your exact needs which you aren't too clear on.
Good luck,
Mark
May be your computer is BLUE TOOTH enabled it have range of one and only 10 meters ... By using amplifier you can increase the range ... Second piece its good to hold Small range for protection point of view :)
Wi-fi uses like peas in a pod band as your cordless phone surrounded by your house. You wouldn't take your cordless phone to the grocery store 6 miles away and expect it to work. You are going to own about equal range, 300-500 foot, if the router is in a brick home, probably shorter.
