The cursor on my laptop other drags rotten to the side, how can I stop this?
Answer:
The 'nipple' is a pointing device.
It is meant to move the cursor.
It seem the machine is fine.
Any problems are next to the user from what you describe.

Exact same problem with my Dell laptop.
I have to swivel the little purple thing to grasp it to go straight, but I pulled it past its sell-by date and the plastic machine piece was caught underneath so in a minute you cannot control the cursor
(I told no-one about this, of late switched it off and used the computer!).
Whatever you do DO NOT PULL THE PURPLE THING OFF!! or it will never work.
I'd insist on to ask Dell, and, when you do, please put the feedback on here!!!
I had a Texas laptop that developed this reproach... the nipple mouse was going wrong. Check for quill or paperclips or crumbs stuck round it. Mine had some and it get a bit better after de-gunking, but it gradually get worse and worse till I had to hold the entity hard moved out just to stay internal.
Check your manual, you may own a way to rebalance the nipple settings so it doesn't creep.
Failing that check your bios and see if you can turn the nipple bad and the mousepad on.
Failing that use an external mouse - they are much nicer than those *awful* stick devices anyway... how can you type and mouse with them minus moving your hands past its sell-by date the keyboard?

just disassemble it and renovate it. Maybe put pieces of plasticard under the mounting points to reposition the covers lsightly.
Sounds as if you enjoy a steering alignment problem (mouse out of balance). Take it to your nearest service centre to take re-aligned.
Personally I hate those things. I use a dinky little mouse I get from (groan) PC World - much easier and much more accurate.
