I want to know how best to take TV programmes through my laptop?

I enjoy a newi-ish Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook with Media Centre installed. Does anyone know the best product to buy so I can study TV on it? Also - funny question, I know - but is it worth it (in jargon of reception quality) and will it give me the free-to-view channel as well as the five terrestrials?

Answer:
There is a USB device specifically a freeview tv receiver.

Put USB freeview into a check out engine and see what comes up. They're around lb16.
You need a tv tuner card, beside taht you can splice your cable connection straight through the CATV input on the card.
you could try the Hauppage tv tuner card next to usb connection, enduring ones have adjectives the channels you would achieve on a set top box
if you are in the uk asda put up for sale them in most of their bigger stores
