My laptop dvd drive will play cds dvds and information disks but will not burn any and say there's a problem on disk

Answer:
Sounds approaching it's a DVD Rom (which does all that you've mentioned above except burn) and not a DVD-RW (Burner). And if it is a burner you probably do not own burning software like Nero, Sonic, etc. Windows Media Player and Real Player should hold burning capabilities as economically
are you sure its a DVD ROM or DVD Writer??
Bcoz if its DVD Rom..then it can single read DVD/CD.
If its DVD Writer and its giving msg "Prblm on disk" try to put other new disk......and if its still giving same error...after its prblm with ur DVD Writer.
Your DVD drive may not be a burner. While any DVD drive can play adjectives the disk you listed, not adjectives of them can burn DVDs. If your DVD drive is able to burn DVD's, it will hold a small emblem on it that says "DVD+R", "DVD-R" or "DVD+-R". If it merely says "DVD" or have "DVD" with the word "ROM" within small leters under it, consequently id is not a burner.
You probably inevitability to install a burning software. Try nero from nero.com it is pretty good.
Make sure you are trying to burn to compatible discs. For instance, if your burner will individual burn to -R, or -RW discs and you are using +R, or +RW discs, this could be the problem. Pre-recorded discs that have be finalized can be read by any DVD drive regardless of compatibility due to the fact they hold been finalized. Also, if you are getting the error after you enjoy gone through the entire write process, this error may be erroneous in itself. I hold experienced this error after burning discs, but found out that the disc was readable. If you can insert the disc within another CD or DVD drive and it can be read, the error may be false.

If the problem be because your DVD drive is not a DVD Burner, when you insert a blank disc and try to open it, you should bring back a message telling you to insert a disc surrounded by the drive. It would do this because the blank disc isn't formatted and a DVD ROM wouldn't recognize a disc one there because it doesn't know what to do next to an unformatted disc. Since you are getting a disc error massage, you probably do own a burner, so that shouldn't be your problem.
