I got a wifi enabled laptop from PC world at xmas cost lb399 made by packard bell. the merely downside is its not really upgradable.
Dell Inspiron 9400 is the best. but it is bigger.
as long as it has wireless exchange cards built in, any type will do. Of course there's differences within quality but it also depends on your wireless router obviously, and as long as you live in a commonplace house and not some kind of huge mansion, any system will do, really.
What you do enjoy to look at is battery vivacity - and specs lie! I'd suggest only checking which laptops are available and in your price inventory, and then freshly reading some user comments on the web.
I know that i be very impressed next to the battery duration on a new IBM Thinkpad that my inlaws hold bought, however our own Acer laptop really sucks when it comes to battery energy.

I hold read some of the comments here. PLEASE do not go to PC World or Curreys (formerly particular as Dixons - probaby because they are so crap they felt varying them name would revolutionize things). I hate both these companies and I work surrounded by IT and have done for roughly 20 years now. Awful service, illustrious prices and not good part. If you don't believe me, these 2 companies got the worse feedback from customers for customer service within a survey with Argos and habitually place cheap components in laptops and are FAR too expensive. I would instinctively go to www.laptopdirect.co.uk which get voted the BEST web site within PC Pro as already stated by a member. They own the cheapest prices in the price field you are after and you can save a fortune. NEVER buy from retailers out in attendance. Even John Lewis (as good as they are and they get votes #1 in one and the same survey) can charge up to lb150 more than online. Ask them If they can match the price and they will speak no as they have adjectives these expenses to pay. Most laptops come near wireless anyway and you can buy cards separately. Get PC PRo for a good array of prices. I suggest laptopdirect as they have a reputation for angelic service and good utility laptops. For lb300-lb500 pounds I would make sure you achieve a laptop that is compatible near Vista but this is your choice. You'll need a min of 1-2GB, perfect H/D capacity etc. Remember that profusely of laptops are cheap because of Vista so don't get caught out near a low price but low spec laptop. My friend bought a laptop from Woolworths for lb300 with wide open screen as ably but it depends on what you are after. For instance, Vista, games, word processing. You don't say. If it is only just for wireless as I said the majority of laptops now come beside this as standard otherwise you can purchase a card extra for a small amount of dosh. I have a wirleless card surrounded by mine which cost me lb30
DO NOT go for a laptop within the US. You will not be able to use it as the voltage is different to the UK as suggested by someone. It may be partially the price but you will have a useless piece of h/ware.110/120 volts as challenging our 240.
As for the MACbook suggestion. I would not not recommend it. It is VERY expensive and will not cost you lb300-400. It is a supurb machine but a Intel or AMD processor is what you want to shift for. MAC are great but they still do not have the marketplace. Sure, you can shell out for Bootcamp and run the MAC O/S and XP or Vista on the same appliance but why would u want to. If you want to go for Apple stuff, go and get an iPOD or IPhone. Microsoft are not innovative, even theoir Vista O/S copies everything from Google (Google Desktop/Toolbar) but you can't go wrong and will spoilt for choice next to software.
I found the Acer range polite value and powerfully priced but most importantly is the Extended Warranty you get for around lb65.00 for 3 x years and that includes a skin and optical mouse. I've just get a got a Duo Intel processor,Vista loaded, 120Gb HD, 1GB Ram via Comet on site for lb499.00 from lb699.00 and would recommend geting any Laptop via internet. It also come with free transport which others don't.
