Are external hard-drives compatible beside laptops?
Answer:
terribly compatible. all u requirement is an USB connection or if ur using MAC after a firewire connection.
i use an external HD myself for my laptop for storage purposes
The external rugged drive and the laptop must share compatible interface devices. Today, the most popular interface for both laptops and external hard drives are USB (universal serial Bus) connectors. If your laptop have a usb connector, you should have no trouble connecting a usb external knotty drive to it. If you have a Mac, it may also enjoy a Firewire interface. In this case you could also use a concrete drive that has a firewire interface.
Also basically to note.
Make sure if you be in motion USB that your systems uses usb 2.0 as the transfer rates are around 400mbps close to that of firewire.
USB 1.0 have a transfer rate of 12mbps and if you are going to run programs from an external it can pose a problem.
USB 2.0 become common around 2003 I regard
