Huh? You mean you want to be in motion online wirelessly without your modem mortal plugged in? Not possible. The wireless router requests to be connected to the modem which needs to be turned on at the wall and also connected to the phone file or whatever you use for internet

You need a wireless router that plugs into your modem. To turn it into a radio signal
You will have need of a wireless interface device attached to your computer, as well as a wireless access point that attaches to your modem if your moden doesn't own a built-in antenna. I use a wireless USB connector on my computer, and a wireless router on my modem; Netgear and Linksys both make apposite ones that are inexpensive.
If you already have both of these things, after you probably need to see your wireless connection. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > and you should see both your wired and wireless Network Interfaces. Right click on your wireless one, and see it. You may also need to travel through the wireless setup wizard that's also found in the Control Panel, if you haven't done so already.
