My USB ports on my Compaq Presario v2000 stopped working-- can they be replaced?

My laptop have two USB ports, and both of them have stopped working. One of them works if I jiggle it around, but only sometimes!

Is it possible to replace them? Or will I hold to do the nightmare of replacing the entire motherboard?

I've searched around and see that other models of laptops sometimes feature USB ports that are completely removable and replaceable... have anyone ever opened one of these things up? Maybe it is replaceable? Or soldered on?

Thanks!

Answer:
if both ports go dead next the chipset on the motherboard fried which cant be replaced. My suggestion is to get a usb PCMIA card you can shove within the slot in your laptop

If your computer is out of action properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
