System restore?
Answers:
If you do a system restore, you could lose plentifully of information, not to mention that it is no guarantee of ridding yourself of malware. See the article below (first link) from a Microsoft MVP.
"System Restore should only be used after trying smaller number comprehensive methods of troubleshooting. System Restore changes oodles files and registry entries, and in some cases might replace more files than you want restored."

The subsequent link below is also from Microsoft. If you look through the Q&A, you'll see hint to the following
"System Restore does not completely uninstall any program if restoring to a point prior to the program installation. As System Restore is based on an inclusionary model, any files added or modified by the installation (which is not monitored by System Restore) or added to or modified contained by a non-monitored drive will not be tracked. To remove all change an installation may have made to the system, the user should first use the Add/Remove selection in the control panel to remove the application prior to using System Restore. System Restore will unfasten all record changes made to the registry and monitored files cause by the application install, including:
o Deleted or monitored files added to the system from the program installation
o Undo modifications to monitored files made by the installation
o Replacement of the current registry with the registry snapshot taken at the chosen restore point (some current values may persist)"

so whatever be installed at that point is back again
personal information will single dissapear if it was put within the computer after the chosen restore date.
for example
if today I install a software that locks up my computer..
I run a restore to yesterday and it's like today never happen but everything is the same approaching yesterday
including personal info

Delete all your personal notes manually to ensure it is clean.
You are not referring to Windows System Restore, are you? That single brings you back to an more rapidly system state (registry and all that), your facts and programs should relatively be intact.
But I guess you are talking going on for the System Recovery provided by the laptop manufacturer - yes, that will erase everything and bring your laptop to the inventive factory state.
if your main purpose is to clear adjectives your personal files, i suggest that you reformat your hard drive and install a fresh Operating system since you sell your laptop.
