Computer Shuts sour by iteself! HELP?
I enjoy about 30GB of notes I need to stern up so I can wipe out the system and reinstall XP.
The problem is, as I'm trying to backup background to my new Maxtor 300GB External, the computer lately up and shuts off lacking provocation after about 6 or 7 minutes.
Not hibernate, not stand by, it SHUTS DOWN.
I dont enjoy time to baby sit the damn item and spoon feed files to the external, and I cant write to a CD-RW since the damn entry doesnt recognize CDs anymore.
Anyone know why it's doing this or what virus is cause it to do this so I can try to delete it?
I tried to install Norton to scan the system, but like I said, the ******* Dell doesnt know how to read CDs.

It does sounds close to it could be a: A variant of the blaster worm (sasser, nachi, ect). or b: could your computer be overheating? I know this happen a LOT to people who smoke by thier computers. The pitch gunks up thier fans. (A friend I hold repaired computers for a living at staples... smoke is a computer's worst enemy). Could also be years of dust buildup.
Get a can of compressed air and verbs it out.
I would first check the power settings in the contol panel. This is what conceivably causing it. Make sure the settings are set to never.
I would also brand name sure the files are virus free before transfering them to the reimaged system or you will be infected again when you connect the external drive. Good Luck

this happend to mine and i bought a new tricky drive and still messed up so you should either by a trial motherboard or like i did and bye a latest computer.
Could be any number of viruses so not a soul can help you in attendance. I would suggest you try safe mode (F8 during boot up) but that may stop you person able to access your external concrete drive.
If this were my system and I needed to subsidise up the 30gb of data, I would set up another not easy drive and then slave the infected one. Transfer over the 30gb of notes and then format the ingenious hard drive.

OK this is only just sick curiosity but can you do a Hijack This report than post it here. I always wondered what a 100% infested computer looked close to. I would also like to know what you downloaded that cause it to be like this? Also, worms, trogans, virus, take your pick, can basis so much damage vanished unchecked can cause this.

it happen to mine too so I went to futureshop "were I bought it" and they told me it needed to be cleaned. Because in that was too much dust surrounded by it or something.
It could be a virus, but from what you are describing, it sounds like your system may be shutting itself down to thermally protect itself. Be sure that your systems fan are clean. Use some compressed nouns and blow your system out to aid in better airflow and see if that help your problem.
One other solution would be to remove the hard drive from the gadget, and hook it to another computer to first run a virus program as you do not wish to copy any infected files.
I have the same entry over a year ago. Turned out to be the Sasser virus and I needed to get a professional to get hold of rid of it- had to reformat the sturdy drive because of where the virus be located. In the process, he transferred my files to another computer, I think connected to mine beside a cable. No CD be needed.
Although a virus CAN shut down the pc, I own a different suspicion.. when you are doing extensive use of a hard drive, or a set of complex drives in a continuous trend like when yer doing a HUGE backup, your computer uses MUCH more punch than normal.. I suspect you enjoy a faulty power supply which is giving up the ghoul as it gets too hot. I consider if it were me, and I really NEEDED the data, I would shift find a much larger power supply and use that until I could get the facts transferred..
How do you know it's a virus? 90% of computer issues are related to hardware failures, corrupt software files, or malware.
Have you tried logging on near a different user account?

After successful repairs
Delete adjectives temp internet files including off string content, delete all temp files . Go to add/remove progras and delete adjectives programs that are not required. (These can be done in oodles ways including disc clean up option) Then defrg the PC.
