it depends on what you want to do near your p/c. 1 downfall i've seen beside vista is that it won't work on older p/cs but that's be true for most versions of window anytime a new op sys comes out it seem to require more ram, more processor speed, a bigger harddrive, better graphics card, and the roll continues.
in my feelings if you are using windows xp at this time i'd stay beside it. vista will run on a pent 4 class p/c but to get optimum actions you'll want one of the new dual core machines, since vista be designed for those. also if you run games on your computer vista is'nt for you because it does'nt work well beside 3rd party spectator sport software from what i've read in the reviews at cnet downloads, and from what i've read near there are 5 different version of vista with the lowest cost ones not giving the ceremony that most people have need of or want, if you still think you gotta own vista after reading what i've said go here and read the user reports around vista http://www.download.com/?tag=nl.e415...
in my view vista is'nt worth the cost for what i use my p/cs for win xp works fine for me. but i'm also testing a couple of linux op systems at this time because i am tired of putting my rugged earned $s within bill gates pocket.

microsoft will probably start writing new programs for clean operating systems now anyway give you a few years to adust, if you get a investigational one you will get anyway, but close to XP im sure there will be bugs contained by first 6 months, stick to what you know works, Win XP does that for time being, soon close to win 95/ 98 ME they wont be supported so use wisely
My conservatory got several hundred Vista programs ending month; I guess my computer teacher know people. The program is pretty cool, but it adjectives depends on if you want to spend money on it. Everything is 3D, and it is well protected. But, anything, your choice.
Not so much yet. You acquire a facelift on the operating system, so it looks nice, but you need a rather powerful machine newly to handle the graphics.
Also, copious programs (iTunes being a prominent one) do not work all the same on Vista, so unless you want to hassle with software, it may be best to loaf.
It's probably a good view as well to keep on out the initial patches for surety holes invariably discovered after release. I know there have already been at smallest one service patch to cover a hole, and more may be forthcoming. Let the first wave of attacks hit lacking you in the fray, and come within later.
Best bet is to linger until you need a foreign computer, and then procure one either beside Vista or one that includes a free upgrade from the installed XP.
