Why doesnt my wireless web work on my laptop?

Ok, i resembling playing online games with my friends. I play slightly a bit, and i got a laptop second Christmas. I also recieved a wireless router(Linksys). We hooked it up and it worked ok for about a month or two and simply lost connection a few times. Then, it a moment ago completely stopped working after i didnt use it for about a week (got grounded) and my dad know a guy who is good near computers to come have a look in the order of it and we sort of got it working again. But, subsequently, it was working, but slowly. It would be going alright and consequently steadily decline in nouns untill it was so slow that i could no longer do anything except continue for it to come back up. I know that sounds resembling it has some external inteferance near my phone or something, but they run on different frequencies.

Does anyone know why this would be happeningor how to fix, or the best way to run a cable to my room? (i am currently contained by my dads office when im online and want to be within me room.)

I would try a number of things:

1. Get into your routers admin menu (see the instructions)

2. Try varying the channel on which the router runs. Try 1,2,10, & 11. See if that help.

3. Make sure the firmware in your router is up-to-date. Again, read the instructions. This can be complicated! Make sure your Dad hasn't made any customized settings that will go and get wiped out, or you'll draw from grounded again!

4. Download a freeware program called NetStumbler. It will run on your laptop and show you adjectives the wifi signals it can receive, what channel they are on, and how strong they are. This could minister to you with Step 1 above.

5. Make sure the driver for your framework interface in your laptop is up-to-date also.

6. Make sure your router hasn't be disturbed by the cat and the antennas folded down, etc. :o)

Try hooking it up to a diff. net work. I know Linksys. Its REALLY unpromising. bleh.

the reason you can not attain on the internet is because there is no wireless nouns in the nouns you are in. i recommend you capture a mac. it picks up the closest wireless connection and it doesn't event whose it is.

You could check for vuruses on your machine, can you connect to the linksys control panel usually http:/192.168.1.1 or http://10.0.0.2 try connecting to that at different places surrounded by the house. You could get carry a bigger arial for you linksys wireless or an extension for the existing arial or there is something call a wirless access point that you could set up in your bedroom - it sensitive of extends the network. Just build sure it is compatible

Unlike the other poster, I like Linksys. A couple of things to consider:

Are you running any encryption on the net? Perhaps you've got a neighbor running Kazaa on your exchange cards and that's why it's slow.

Have you gotten the latest firmware from Linksys? I've never have firmware fix a failing wireless router, but it has the potential to spawn the connection work better if it isn't an outright hardware fiasco.

Have you got the most modern wireless drivers for your wireless card. I've had this solve problems surrounded by many cases. You can usually draw from them on the manufacturer's website, but if the computer is only a couple of months infirm, it may already have the up-to-the-minute drivers.

Finally, if the router is defective, Linksys will replace it. You just hold to go to their site and request an RMA, and e-mail them the defective unit. Or, travel spend $50 on a new one. Your choice.

If you insist on running hardwired, you can gain a Netgear 11mbps ethernet over powerline adapter kit for give or take a few $80. Then, you won't have to run cable. I've had moral luck with these.
