The cd-rom drive on my elder Toshiba Satellite laptop went out and I can't find any that aren't really expensive. I'm pretty sure I'm looking for a abnormal Toshiba format called "Master Inverted C-SEL". (I already tried a common replacement drive before reading just about this Toshiba format...it didn't work.)

Your best bet is to try on E-Bay. Hopefully someone else had duplicate model that died and is selling off the parts. I know the slim lines can be to some extent expensive.
