I want to add my computer to a property registry surrounded by case it is stolen, and don't know which of the two numbers on the bottom is the serial number. Is it the one on the smaller, shiny Microsoft sticker, or the one on the larger, duller sticker?

The other should be your computers serial. Use that one.
Look on the bottom of your laptop. There should be some stickers on it. On one of those stickers you should see a combination of numbers and correspondence started by s/n ..s/n stands for serial number. Hope this helps.
The microsoft number is the product code switch for your operating system installed on your laptop.
