if you are connected through the router, trade name sure to see if the laptop communicates with the router.
When you purchased the router , it should own come with a disc, try to run the CD which will install router software surrounded by the laptop.
The other , if your desktop is connected through the router also , click start then run ,consequently type command and in the command prompt type ipconfig /all and you will find the IP address of the router.
