Answer:
Buy the 80 see HDD and use the recovery disk to reinstall the untested OS and free software. Asus uses C for OS, and D for recovery fence. Best to install from their recovery disk to save recovery screen intact and active if anything go wrong.
If you upgraded to XP Pro, use your original OS disk instead. Fresh XP install utilizes full HDD space, but you lose the retrieval partition.
No problem any way doubling your drive space unless the ASUS is REALLY OLD. Then, no concern how big the HDD is, BIOS will only certificate 20 gig max.
The diffrence between a Windows Xp pro Cd and the recouping disk is that a recovery disk is a specialized disk picture with your computer specific drivers on it. It should work fine.
Depending on how prehistoric your laptop is honestly putting a bigger hard drive contained by it might not be worth the cost. I have have poor luck with laptop computers of adjectives brands. The average service life seem to be about 18 months. You can bring back a cheap replacement notebook for around 500.00 if you look for it.
the recovery disk contains the files required for your laptop to become up and running again, including adjectives windows xp files.
will you be replacing the 40GB Hdd or getting an supplementary 80Gb drive?
if you are replacing then it should work inflict it installs on the C: drive. i don't think it will work on an external intricate drive.
how do you know your HDD is dying ... if the system is just slow next it might be all the files on your system that are cause it to be slow.
