Need some backing next to a GPS receiver…?

I newly bought a new GPS heir – it works great and I love it – but the problem is that it takes too long to acquire a signal; roughly 3-5 minutes – Is this run of the mill. If not, is there anything I can do more or less this? Perhaps change the settings on the Com port? I use the addressee in conjunction beside Microsoft Streets and Tips 2007. Thanks

Answer:
Thats not bad.Make sure at hand is nothing above the gps blocking the scene to the sky.Clear, open sky will generate for faster aquisition.Tree's or other structure like towering buildings overhead is not good.
GPS desires to aquire a certain number of satelites to win a "fix" on your position.Depending on your location, only a undisputed number of satelites will be overhead at any given time. The more satelites available, the quicker the fix.
You may also want to check the starting(area) postion saved surrounded by the GPS for the aquisition to make sure it's accurate.
