if you had a desktop i'd speak yes, but with a laptop 512MB is fine.
its have enuf power to utilize 1G with the processor and the gpu

it depends upon your usage and requirements. If you are looking to upgrade to vista and stuff you requirement 1gb even though microsoft tells u 512 is well brought-up enough. But you will be capable of notice some difference when multitasking.
more is other better especialy if your getting a machine near vista on it if you are then opt for 2 gb of bump or more
Get 2 Gigabytes or RAM. You will be very indebted when you upgrade to Vista. I have be testing Vista extensively for 2 months in a minute and even if Microsoft says 1 Gigabyte will be adequate the tests show that you will not procure an optimal performance near 1 Gigabyte (unless you want to use the basic journal with the cool 3D transparent window etc).

I don't do games, but usually have two or three programs running simultaneously. I hold 512mb RAM, but have done adjectives I know of to free up my memory -- removed wallpaper and screensaver, save files frequently, and individual load Office at startup. For anything else I don't use on a day after day basis - I can continue a minute for the load. It also help to run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk and defrag regularly.
Graphics consume memory. If you are only into serious work, you should know how to get by next to 512mb.
Ram is the best value for a computer upgrade. I defently not return with a computer with smaller number than 1 GB these days near all the memory intensive programs and multi tasking mortal done. (I personaly have 2 GB)
If you download music or store photos or any other memory intensive It help to have one see.That's what I have and I don't freeze up close to I used to.You don't go into virtual memory as much any.
It's hard to read out without knowing what you use your laptop for, and how many programs you hold running at the same time. But, adjectives that being said, getting the 1GB of RAM is absolutely worth it, given the complexity of today's programs, not to mention the requirements of Windows Vista. Good luck.
