i am a CAD guru by trade. i would look at CAdyst mag they own tested "mobile workstations" Aug 06' was the most recent review that put the dell precision M90 ahead of the others, but also favored HP compaq nw9440
Any laptop is correct...Just two things to make sure

Tons of space combined near a powerful processor

A great graphic card.

And you should be biddable!
well for starters.. i would recomend that you buy an intel pentum duo core 2 or the most up-to-date intel processor w/ duo core 2 hard core processor from: www.intel.com.. and if you can't aford that okay then move about with an intel actual celeron processor w/ 810 chipset pins buthowever makesure that the heat vent are free of dust or the processor will not function properley. =( only because i've have the experience myself.

the laptop that i recomend that you should buy is an ibm thinkpad w/ finger reading tecnology and a very quick processor to,
i will give u the specs,
processor-intel centrino duo 2 1.66 ghz
ram-1 GB
clear card-preferably ati radaeon or nvidia geforce with 256 or 512mb memory
screen-15 inch lcd

here are many brands but i surmise u should get a dell or toshiba
also try getting a optical mouse as it will be better for drawing when compared to touchpad
draw from a sony
nice choice
