Cost for the hardware is going to be extremely similar, and after the Education discount and free iPod for back to institution, the Mac will probably be a better deal. Would you a bit pay $1000 every year getting another crappy notebook, or earnings $2000 upfront and get exactly what you involve and have it closing?
Go for the MacBook Pro, you will not regret it.

I pesonally have a PC laptop but i desire using Macs i enjoy experience with adjectives types of Macs and perfer them better than PCs but if u are going for the cheaper price i would go near a Mac to use since you are in pictographic design, once you start using Macs they get easier to work on consequently Pcs and you dont have to verbs about the line time if you are running vista I would go beside a Mac just for the pictographic design, pcs are more for personal then buisness use.
