Computer dvd drive not workinh?
It's a Tobisha(not sure exact kind but its new) and it's using vista if that help

I recommend you to try the following steps to resolve your issueL
Step 1:

1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
2. Select the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager.
4. Click the "+" sign next to CDROM.
5. Click the first device tabled under CDROM to underscore it.
6. Click Remove to remove the CD-ROM device driver.
7. Click OK for confirmation.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 to remove all CD/DVD device drivers.
9. Close the System Properties box.
10. Restart the computer by clicking Start, Shut down, Restart, and after OK.
On next startup Windows XP will reinstall tentative set of device drivers.
Reinstallation of the CD drive should resolve the issue.
Step 2: If issue persist, download and run a fix from the following URL:

Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.vbs and save this report to your hard drive. Navigate to where on earth you saved it and double click the profile to extract the contents. Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it. A confirmation dialog will appear when the characters is done. You may need to reboot for the transform to take effect.

Redownload the Drivers from the manufacture's website.
Are you sure the program you are running is working capably?
When you say it can't play them... do you tight-fisted that it won't play movie DVDs?
Does the DVD drive show up under My Computer? If you put a background DVD in, can you see the information?
If you can see data, on the DVD, but can't play the movie type, you may simply need to download some DVD player software. Usually, Microsoft's Media Player will do it, but but for, try something like

are you putting the dvd disk contained by upside down ?
are trying to play home made dvds or commercial dvds
does the drive recognize disc music disks
CHECK AND SEE IF YOU HAVE A SOFTWARE DVD PLAYER INSTALLED.

THIS IS BECAUSE MOVIE COMPANIES WONT PERMIT MICROSOFT TO INCLUDE A DVD CODEC (coder/decoder).

SOME NEW S**Y MOVIES WILL NOT PLAY ON ANY COMPUTER BECAUSE OF AN INTENTIONAL BAD SECTOR ON THEIR DISCS. SAME AS S**Y GAME DISCS.

Marti, the shop ripped your dad off. (he should run it back and capture refunded) Windows will not play dvds on it's own. You need third deputation software such as DivX, free, or Nero, trial, to play them.
