How do you erase a Mac's strong drive?

I hold a Macbook, It's old and I want to donate it but I want to completly erase the tricky drive first. Step-by step easy instructions would be accepting, thank you!!!

my advice is to remove the easier said than done drive completely and destroy it this is the safest agency or alternatively use a program like wipe drive this will erase adjectives your data after replace it with 1's and 0's till the tough drive is full so all your facts is gone and if someone does a recover process adjectives they will find is a load of irregular code

never just format your drive and have an idea that its done the files can still be recovered

If you have your OSX Install DVD, Reinstall the OSX and during the installation within is an option to completly erase and re-install the OSX.
