I would:
1) Update to SP2
2) Upgrade to at least 1GB RAM
3) Download and install: Spybot, Ad-Aware, Avast Antivirus(all free)
I would update that to service pack 2, it is more optimized, making it faster. Also, you could upgrade the RAM. You can take a gig of notebook RAM online presently for about 40 dollars. http://www.newegg.com is a virtuous site for online computer electronics.
A good anti-spyware+adware+virus+troj... program is call superantispyware. It is very updated, and will catch anything i.e. on your computer that shouldn't be on there.
