The system it's self is fine as a laptop.
512mb will run fast plenty as a laptop (but not to play any games)
Widescreen is a plus
Dvd playing drive
40 GB hard drive is quite good
Should be briskly on the internet
Only problem is I would upgrade to Vista, Xp is soon to "retire" and you may feel the involve to just stay next to modern software and operating system. Ask about upgrading to Microsoft Vista.
