but how does upgrading memory work? if you hold 512mb and you add 1gb,
do you own to take out the 512 or will you own 1.5gb?

within theory you should hold 1.5GB...however, I would advise reading the Documentation that come with the laptop...you enjoy to make sure the memory you buy match what you currently have from speed to voltage some elder laptops can be fickle...also make sure you can in fact use the memory...even though a 1GB stick would fit the manufaturer and some motherboards may not allow the full use so at best you would only bring back 512MB use out of that 1GB you shelled out for...
If you have single 1 slot, you have to nick out the 512mb and put in the 1gb stick.
If you own 2 slots you can use both slots and get 1.5gb.

im microsoft certified..in recent times so you know..you must take out the 512 strike first..then insert the 1 gb run into into the pc using non-polarized tools..if you statically charge the run into by accident if could own been for always damaged.so recommend pros installing it such as best buys geek squad..they do it for as low as 49 dollars..hope it help
You can add memory if slot is available. pairs from some MFr and stock are better. Also MUST be same speed as the RAM will adjectives run at the speed of the slowest.
