PowerBook G4 and External Hard Drive?

I enjoy a PowerBook G4 with a fresh install (just formatted it 10 mins ago)
and enjoy all my background on an external Western Digital 120GB HD which i bought earlier this week.
I know my laptops USB works fine (memory sticks, the usb keybord i'm using, my ipod - adjectives work on it).
And I know that the HD is good coz i be using it on a friends iMac and on a few PCs in the few days i enjoy it (and it has some notes from the first connection beside the iMac on it...)

but somehow
my Powerbook doesn't want to read the HD, i know the powers getting there, because i can hear it running (and the lights on), but it doesn't appear as person read, and i can't see it in the Disk Utilities...
hope thats satisfactory info
would be gratefull for any advice, software (for a Mac) that would give a hand me get it to be read
cheers!

Answer:
Restart or shut down your computer making sure the sturdy drive is unplugged.

Once your account is logged contained by plug it in again and see if it works. Sometimes some knotty drives are not recognized and adjectives you really need is a reset.

If that doesn't minister to or if you've already tried this then check online to see if the rock-hard drive is compatible and whether or not there are any neccessary drives/software you can download (like from the manufacturer's website).

Repair your permissions.

If have need of be download a program called Cocktail. Theres an likelihood there that you can set that will remove the problem I believe.
You should run Software Update to get your Mac up to date first. Then run AHT from your Install Disk to see if your USB port is working fine. Try connecting them near another cable. If your PB G4 and WD HD has firewire ports, try connecting them near a 6 - 6 pin firewire cable.
