I'd get a sony. People ***** something like them for whatever reason but they're all one and the same. Sony will be compact and sleek and help you win laid... or somthing.
Averatec would be a good choice too.
If you want a great laptop anything from the breadth of HP products will do just fine for college. If you a short time ago want cheap cost go for Acer, their dirt cheap. If you want to purloin a chance on ability and want a lower price go near Dell but it is a gamble. Toshiba is alright but at matching cost as HP, HP is a much better choice. If money isn't a problem try Sony as they have power products and unless your really entering money is no problem then look at brands approaching VoodooPC and Alienware. Just stay away from Mac, unless you want to not be able to find games compatible and contract with the headache of your favourite software not man compatible and if it's possible whatever brand you choose opt for the AMD processor, they run faster, are more durable and are of better quality than Intel.
don't go and get alienware, it has be generally crap ever since DELL bought it out.

Its get to be an apple mac :) Macbook will do no need to shift for the macbookpro unless you want the titanium. Buy the biggest harddrive they have an make the addition of in a bit more RAM too. They do great university deals and refurbished laptops. Also they reasonably often contribute away free stuff like ipods as resourcefully and free or heavily discounted applecare.
