i dunno which DVD writer to use..which one is better and ol, so any info/suggestions are appreciated.
im currently on my pitiful 40GB original firm drive.i dunno if having an more external drive will have any effect on my system... or which size my computer can take..lend a hand me out pleeeasssee

Personally, DVD drives by either are fitting. Just a matter of pricing. And if you own to get an external drive it is other good to acquire the biggest one you can afford.
Now as far as your hard drive, you could amendment out your internal for a bigger one. It would be faster than trying to access the external. Also if you do get one, bring back one with at lowest possible the 7200 rpm. That is faster than the 5200 rpm.

External Drive: Now here is a connotation. Get the 100 Gb drive for your laptop. Then with the discarded 40 mb drive, keep on, don't discard it. BUY an external hard suitcase for it and that can be your NEW 40 Gb external drive. Use this for your backup of files. People do not know about buying unyielding drive external cases.
In your memory modules you probably have two 512 Gb memory modules within there. Well if you can not afford two, buy at lowest 1 - 1Gb memory module, giving you 1.5 Gb of memory, then when you obtain the money you get the other 1 Gb of memory. Now THIS will augment your computer performance seriously now.

Late PS: No wonder your laptop is slow, I merely noticed the complex drive is 4200 rpm. Read cnet and pcworld about complicated drives and speed. Any problems give me a buzz.

You can use any external DVD drive that plugs into your computer via USB. Personally, I would chose the Sony over Logitech, but any brand will work. Pioneer and Liteon are also obedient brands. Just shop for drive speed and price.
The same is true for an external hard drive. Any brand will work that uses a USB port. Maxtor, Western Digital, Lacie and Seagate are adjectives good brands.
