Cracked Laptop Screen...What Are My Options?

My father in recent times dropped a metal case of poker chips on the blind portion of his Sony VAIO 19" laptop (1.5 years old). The keyboard be unharmed. He say the computer turns on fine with the MS chime, but the eyeshade is completely white with horizontal black lines. There are also a few colored lines and a physical fracture surrounded by the screen too. I haven't see it, but it sounds pretty bad.

What are his option?

Answer:
Yes, replace the screen. It may find a little pricey, but I wouldn't buy a unknown laptop like some of the general public are suggesting.

Contact http://www.screentekinc.com and see if they have your blind. The best thing to do at this point is remove the peak, here are some helpful instructions: http://www.screentekinc.com/lcd-removal-...

Once you enjoy the oem number off the put a bet on of the screen or the Sony division number, either contact a company approaching ScreenTek or search http://www.ebay.com for that subdivision. It might be a little intricate to find a 19" screen. Those are a bit harder to come by.

Either way, I reflect the best thing to do is replace the peak. It will save you profusely of money and time of transferring all your files onto a contemporary machine.

Good luck :)
buy a clean laptop. if u try to fix it, than it will cost more. message me if u need more relief..

Warranty repair, if you enjoy it. Replace the screen, which is expensive. Buy a modern notebook.
You need the blind replaced..nothing you can do.
There are places that replace the eyeshade. You can send it hindmost to the manufacturer and they should know how to help you out also. I know a place contained by the Houston area and specifically all they do @ around 200 dollars a pop.

Find out the Laptop info. For example, my dad uses a Dell Latitude X600 (or something). Type the computer name and "parts" after it and someone should be selling screen and other stuff, I guarantee it. If you get a trial screen. Just start on up the laptop and look at how the other screen is hooked and only just copy what you see. Buying a new laptop or sending it within can cost money. When you search ebay, it should look similar to this example: "Dell Latitide X600 parts"

and im sure you can find a screen on at hand.
Well, there are two major options: 1) buy a exotic laptop or 2) get the peak replaced. There is a third thing that he could try doing, but i'm not sure how okay it would work. If everything but the screen is working on the laptop, he could hook up an external monitor to the laptop. This passageway, the laptop would in essence become a desktop because you would enjoy to leave on a desk where on earth the external monitor his is. Hope this helps and apposite luck...
Most cases I will say procure a new laptop. But Sony VAIO usually way more expensive next screen. Take it to Sony repair center ask for estimate. Try finding a further notebook repair shop and get an estimate. If the cost is 300-350 repair it. If they quote it more than 600$ later it's cheaper to get a untried laptop.

You may not think it's cheaper to repair (700$ instead of 2000$ foreign laptop) there is profoundly of difference in technology so it make more sense in replacing.
Make it a digital video recorder. You can buy a tv tuner laptop card at newegg.com. Since you screen is cracked use the Svideo out, buy a bluetooth keyboard/mouse control the laptop from the coffee table within front of your TV. Download tv shows, and movies using bit torrent display them on your tv.
