What are the BEST laptop computers available at a pretty plausible cost please?

any sale at Best Buy or is Sam's club usually a better deal?
A friend of mine get an HP laptop, --are they pretty good?

Answer:
compaq are not too doomed to failure, price-wise for what you get. they are presently owned by hp which makes its own stripe of not quite as great laptops. after there are various other reputable but not as well established companies.

dell is hot right very soon (and i say hot near a laugh) because they are breaking into the gaming arena. however, they are expensive and their customer service is not so super.

i own a vaio, but they're expensive like nuts. also run circles around the above companies. the vaio flash is the only wearing clothes thing sony have put its name on. (except conceivably the original playstation).

i own owned: toshiba (super!), compaq (pretty good), vaio, ibm (no longer make their own stripe - the thinkpads got bought by lenovo, a no-name), acer (okay, but not really well agreed except in australia), and a couple other smaller quantity well knowns.

if i be to recommend anything, i would first suggest checking the following actual stores: office depot (they own great sales, but otherwise their prices are horrible), fry's (if you're hard by one), best buy (EXCELLENT WARRANTIES), and maybe costco or sam's , but they're not super set for computer stuff, so who knows what you'll find

unless you're a hardcore gamer, i wouldn't buy dell unless they own a wild crazy public sale. and, i won't buy mac notebooks until they stop charging so freaking much (i love macbooks, but they're too much even beside student prices!!)

no matter what you buy, do your research. you might find some moral prices where you lowest possible expect them, and then again, a great looking price may hide away some big lack of the technology you stipulation.

sorry for being so wordy, but i hope this help a little!
HP is OK. Dell, Toshiba, Sony
DELL Laptops enjoy being proven to be the best and most reliable on the marketplace.
The question you should be asking yourself are:

How will you be using your computer? (graphics design or internet or email)

How much can you afford?

Only consequently you can make your own declaration.
