Sound driver/card? (no sound)?

The nouns has gone from my laptop, it say "no sound card have been installed" and "can't find mixer" or "no nouns driver" I don't know whats going on.
I have go to contro pannel> sound, speech and audio devices>Ajust system volume>hardware>audio codecs but here is no yellow exclimation fleck, it says "this device is working properly" But the solely sounds I can hear are the system sounds (eg statup, low battery)
I'm really stuck please help.
