If you stir to the Apple shop you can pick up a demonstration model or a refurbished one quite cheap. Once you start to use it you'll never budge back to a PC.

Buy a brand new one. I swapped from Windows to OSX about 12 months ago and spent over a dignified on a Macbook Pro. Best computer decision I enjoy ever made. OSX is a dream to use compared to Windows, I finally have a computer that works properly and as an added bonus, no call for for antivirus software as there are none. I enjoy been using may Mac for different uses from website design to music recording plus adjectives the usual email stuff etc. Yes a Mac can seem expensive compared to some laptops but once you see the talent of the components plus all the free software that comes near it believe me you won't feel shortchanged. Personally I cannot see me ever bothering beside Windows again. Of course you could wait until Oct since taking the plunge and then your Mac would come next to the new OS Leopard which is gonig to be relatively a leap forward from OSX however I promise you OSX is light years ahead of Windows as is, so really the choice is yours, but what ever you do noticeably buy a MAC not a PC.
