Looking into expanding my computer memory. Is it safe and sound to go and get used, or is that not suggested for memory?

Typically yes, its nontoxic, however make sure you hold some sort of guarantee that it'll work. Memory doesn't really wear out, but if it's been overclocked, shorted out or something similar, it could be zilch more than a very neutral paperweight.
If by memory you mean RAM, next the answer would be no. RAM is a chip that when exposed to the environment can be damaged by static electricity. If I be to rub my head for a while to violently next touch the device it would be renedered useless.
If by memory you mean a Hard Drive, afterwards yes. Just make sure the source which you purchase the used tricky drive is reliable.
as soon as you get your memory, download memtest86 , run going on for 4 passes and if you bring 0 errors good, if you find any errors return the memory and get some more. corsair is right, make sure its compatible.
