I don't think xp will install lying on vista as an upgrade.. microsoft doesn't like that! but as one put it, you can trademark a dual boot, but why bother?? Most commercial installed programs will not run under dual boot systems.. esp the registered ones.

I'm in this predicament myself since dell constrained the XP systems a lot this later little bit. I decided a dual boot be the best option because if you're resembling me Vista is a temporary compatibility problem and you can't linger for those bug fixes and need a notebook now. I truly contacted some different stores and found that Circuit City will do the dual boot for $140 plus XP. I know this sounds steep but its an option. Plus you can find XP pretty cheap if you look around. You can also check dell outlet or small business for Xp and see if they hold what you're looking for. I hope this helps.
